We have 1.2 million hectares of land cultivated with olive trees for a total of 100 million living plants.
Since ancient times, these plants have played a central role in civilisations; its fruits were an important source of nourishment for man.
Even before the production of oil, olives were consumed daily due to their beneficial properties, easy availability and preservation.
Today, they are still central to the Mediterranean diet and are a product we hold dear.
As simple as they may seem, they hide an infinity of nuances to be savoured and discovered.
26 November is International Olive Tree Day and we could not fail to dedicate a few words to this incredible plant!
